After sharing my 4×4 Christmas Sudoku Puzzles with Pictures, I heard from some teachers that their students found the puzzles to be too easy. They asked for harder puzzles, so I made some word-based Christmas sudoku puzzles that feature different words related to the holiday season.

I also have created a set of 6×6 Winter Sudoku Puzzles with words.

What are 6×6 Sudoku Puzzles?

6×6 Sudoku puzzles are a simplified version of the traditional sudoku puzzle (usually played on a 9×9 grid) that are intended for kids between the ages of 6 and 10. They can also be used as an introduction to sudoku puzzles for older kids and adults.

I also like using 6×6 sudoku puzzles with older students as a brain break activity or class starter since the amount of time needed to solve a puzzle is substantially less than the 9×9 sudoku grid puzzle.

The goal of a 6×6 sudoku puzzle is to complete the 6×6 grid so that each row, each column, and each outlined 2×3 rectangle contains exactly one of each number or letter used in the puzzle. In this case, each puzzle features letters form a Christmas-related word.

Printing Options

These 6×6 Christmas sudoku puzzles are formatted 4 puzzles to a page. You can print a single page for your children/students to work on, or you can print an entire packet of 12 puzzles.

Additionally, these puzzles are leveled as EASY, MEDIUM, and HARD. The easy puzzles include more clues to help the puzzler get started. Thus, they require less logical thinking to solve. The hard puzzles feature the least clues and require the most logical thinking.

Puzzle Solutions

I intentionally do not make answers to the printable math puzzles I share on my blog available online because I strive to provide learning experiences for my students that are non-google-able. I would like other teachers to be able to use these puzzles in their classrooms as well without the solutions being easily found on the Internet.

However, I do recognize that us teachers are busy people and sometimes need to quickly reference an answer key to see if a student has solved a puzzle correctly or to see if they have interpreted the instructions properly.

If you are a teacher who is using these puzzles in your classroom, please send me an email at sarah@mathequalslove.net with information about what you teach and where you teach. I will be happy to forward an answer key to you.

Not a teacher? Go ahead and send me an email as well. Just let me know what you are using the puzzles for. I am continually in awe of how many people are using these puzzles with scouting groups, with senior adults battling dementia, as fun activities in their workplace, or as a birthday party escape room.
