Palm Tree Directed Drawing Worksheet
Can you follow the arrows to complete a drawing of a palm tree without lifting your pencil with this directed drawing worksheet?

What is a Directed Drawing Worksheet?
A directed drawing worksheet features a set of directions (notated by numbers and arrows) and a segment of graph paper with a starting dot marked.
Follow the arrows to reveal a hidden picture — starting at the dot, move the number of squares indicated in each direction, connecting the points as you go. Work through every instruction in order without lifting your pencil, and the mystery image will appear!
The directions must be followed from left to right to make the correct image appear.
Here is a very simple directed drawing example.

Activity Inspiration
I discovered this type of activity as “Dessins algorithmique” (Algorithmic Drawings) in the documentation of ProfCollege (pg 348-349), a LaTeX package for French math teachers by Christophe Poulain.

Instructions
Starting at the dot, move the number of squares indicated by the first number and arrow. Continue the process by following the directions from left to right.
Work through every arrow in order without lifting your pencil, and watch the hidden image of a palm tree appear before your eyes!

Activity Solutions
Activity and worksheet solutions are available on a password-protected solution page. I do not openly post the answer keys because one of my goals as a resource creator is to craft learning experiences for students that are non-google-able. I want teachers to be able to use these activities and resources in their classrooms without the solutions being found easily on the Internet.
Please email me at sarah@mathequalslove.net for the password to the answer key database featuring all of my printable puzzles and math worksheets. I frequently have students emailing me for the answer key, so please specify in your email what school you teach at and what subjects you teach. If you do not provide these details, I will not be able to send you the password.
