Reviewing Observations and Inferences with Dinosaurs

I found this dinosaur scene to emphasize the difference between observations and inferences when I was teaching chemistry. Students are given a dinosaur coloring page and eighteen different statements. They must examine the picture and decide if each statement is an observation or an inference.

The instructions say: “A time machine has been invented that travels into the past and takes pictures, sending them to the present. You are asked to look at one of the pictures and interpret what you see. Put an “O” before the statements that are observations and an “I” before the statements that are inferences.

The original source has a separate photo with six more statements, but I didn’t end up using it.

I used this in conjunction with my observations vs inferences interactive notebook chart.
