I created this set of four set notation puzzles to give my Algebra 2 students practice with set notation. I sadly didn’t end up getting to use them this year due to COVID restrictions.
Each of the sets puzzles features a half-sheet of paper with four sets (A, B, C, and D). There are 15 cards that must be arranged to create five true statements involving the specified sets. Students are expected to know the symbols for subset, element of, and not an element of.
In the first two sets puzzles, all of the sets are written in roster notation. The puzzles increase in difficulty as the puzzle number increases. Puzzle 1 is the easiest. Puzzle 4 is the hardest.
Puzzle 3 features three sets written in roster notation and one set written in interval notation.
Puzzle 4 features only interval notation.
I had a lot of fun creating these sets puzzles, and I am especially grateful for my husband who graciously tested the puzzles to make sure they were solve-able! These puzzles were designed to go along with Section 1.1 of Shaun’s free set of Algebra 2 notes.
