Today I’m sharing an Order of Operations PEMDAS Graphic Organizer I created to review the order of operations with my Algebra 1 students. We glued these graphic organizers in our interactive notebooks.
I have to say I can’t take credit for setting up the order of operations as a hopscotch game. I originally saw it arranged as a hopscotch game at Runde’s Room. She teaches her students “BEDMAS” and has them make their hopscotch tiles out of post-it notes. If you haven’t seen it, you must check it out!

Sarah, Thank you so much for sharing. I added your resource to my webpage (week #1) algebra1teachers.com One goal for this year is to teach my students organization. This will really help. Thanks again. Jeanette
Thank you for sharing! This is very similar to what I've been using, but I love your boxes. I downloaded your Integer operations posters yesterday too. Hopefully I can figure out how to share items and activities this summer – new to blogging and still figuring stuff out. Awesome ideas! Thank you:)
Thank you so much! This year 5th grade has to add Brackets and Braces… The PDF will be a great addition, and I can ass the Brackets and Braces to a later model! THANKS again!
Amazing. Love your website, and your willingness to share! I can't wait to the interactive notebook this year!
Thanks for sharing! It's my first year using the interactive notebook and your site has been such a help!!!!!
You're welcome! I hope INBs have went well for you this year!
Loved it. Thanks
Thank you for sharing. It worked great as a differientiatied assignment.
I'm glad to hear that this worked for you!
Do you put examples or definitions under the cut outs?
On this specific foldable, we wrote out the steps to simplifying using the order of operations. But, I've also done other foldables with examples and definitions! My students don't have textbooks, so we are essentially creating our own reference book.
thank you very much for sharing this! it really helped the kids understand the concept and was very fun!
You're welcome!
I've been wanting to try math notebooks for years, but didn't know where to start. I found one of your ideas on Pintrest a couple years ago, but never took the time to really explore and see how this could be done until today. I really want to try a math notebook this year and after exploring all your ideas, I'm excited! Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing it all with us.
Glad I could help!
This is so helpful thanks Sarah
You're very welcome!
you are awsome sarah
What did you have the students write on the inside? Did you have them write examples?
We worked out a problem together. Under the P flap, we did the parentheses. Under the E flap, we did the exponents, etc.
