Finding Zeros of Quadratics Worksheet
Practice finding zeros of quadratic functions with the graphing calculator with this fun worksheet which involves finding a mystery fruit by unscrambling the unused letters.

Worksheet Instructions
For each quadratic function, find an appropriate window for the graph on your calculator, draw a sketch of the graph, and find the zero(s) of the function. Round to the nearest thousandth.
For each zero, mark out the value in the table at the bottom of the page. The letters that correspond with answers that are not marked out can be unscrambled to reveal a mystery fruit.
Appropriate Courses
This worksheet focuses on finding zeros of quadratics using the graphing calculator. It is suitable for an Algebra 2 course or any course that covers quadratics. I actually created this worksheet for my AP Precalculus students to review this Algebra 2 skill since many of my students have never used a graphing calculator before.
This is the first graphing calculator skill of the year that we practice in AP Precalculus since it encompasses so many important skills including typing equations in Y=, choosing an appropriate window, and using the calculate menu to locate zeros.
I teach the content for my entire AP Precalculus course using the TI-84 calculator. When we start reviewing for the AP exam, I give the students the choice of solving problems using either the TI-84 or Desmos. But I want to give them a strong background with the graphing calculator first. Many of my students do end up preferring a hand-held calculator during the exam. (I say all this to let you know that I do realize that finding zeros with Desmos is substantially easier than with the graphing calculator!)

Activity Solutions
Activity and worksheet solutions are available on a password-protected solution page. I do not openly post the answer keys because one of my goals as a resource creator is to craft learning experiences for students that are non-google-able. I want teachers to be able to use these activities and resources in their classrooms without the solutions being found easily on the Internet.
Please email me at sarah@mathequalslove.net for the password to the answer key database featuring all of my printable puzzles and math worksheets. I frequently have students emailing me for the answer key, so please specify in your email what school you teach at and what subjects you teach. If you do not provide these details, I will not be able to send you the password.
