Function Notation Puzzler

I created this function notation puzzler to help introduce my Algebra 1 students to the concept of function notation. Historically, this has been a very tricky topic to teach in Algebra 1.

When I originally made this activity, I didn’t think it all the way through. All of the values I picked as my examples could be found on the same linear graph (despite the entire graph not being linear). As a result, many of my students thought that the function notation just meant to multiply by 6.

It did lead to some interesting conversations when some students had interpreted the puzzle as multiply by six and others had interpreted it as look at the ordered pairs that the graph goes through.

I have edited the file to fix this problem.
