Pi Day Tic Tac Toe Game

Looking for a fun game to add to your Pi Day celebration? I recommend checking out this free printable Pi Day tic tac toe game.

My five year old is currently obsessed with tic-tac-toe. And, he brought home a report card recently that said he still needs some work on his scissor skills. I decided to a few tic tac toe games for him to play (and practice his scissor skills while doing so.)

And, then I got a bit carried away and decided to make tic tac toe games for ALL of the holidays. (It probably didn’t help that I had just downloaded a new PowerPoint add-in that makes it super easy to take an activity and change out all the images at once.)

So, it will be a while before I teach my kiddo about the amazingness that is Pi Day, but I thought other teachers might find this resource useful.

What is Tic Tac Toe? 

Tic Tac Toe is a classic game played with pencil and paper that is also known as Noughts and Crosses. It is a two-player strategy game which is played on a 3×3 grid. Traditionally, the game of tic-tac-toe is played with one player using the symbol “X” and the other player using the symbol “O.” 

The goal of a game of tic tac toe is to be the first player to achieve a row, column, or diagonal of three of their symbols in a row. Often this is summarized as “Tic Tac Toe. Three in a row.”

Pi Day Tic Tac Toe Version

In this Pi Day version of tic-tac-toe, players compete to see who can get three in a row first either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

The pieces are arranged to the side of the page so that students can first cut on the faint dotted line to separate off the tic tac toe playing board. Then, students must cut out the 10 playing pieces.

Ideas for Classroom Use

I would suggest combining this game with a set of task cards to make a fun Pi Day review game for the classroom. Students take turns answering questions. If they get an answer correct, they get to play on the tic tac toe board. If they get an answer wrong, they lose their turn.

Players continue taking turns answering questions until someone gets 3 in a row.
