SBG Posters – What Does My Quiz Score Mean?

Today I want to share a set of new SBG Posters I created.

This year, I have decided to switch from my A/B/Not Yet SBG scale to a 1-4 SBG scale.  When I tweeted about stopping A/B/Not Yet, I got several questions about why I was making this decision.  I absolutely loved the A/B/Not Yet system.  But, it was so hard to get students and parents to wrap their mind around my intentions.  Students would describe the system to their parents, and then I would hear parents describe the system back to me.  What I would hear would not even be remotely close to how the system actually worked.

A/B/Not Yet was actually based on a 1-4 SBG scale.  “A” was equivalent to a 4.  “B” was equivalent to a 3 or 3.5.  “Not Yet” was equivalent to a 1 or 2.  I thought that by renaming it “A/B/Not Yet” would help students who have never been exposed to SBG understand it.  But, I think use of “A” and “B” might have just confused the matter.

So, here’s my new grading scale.  Thanks goes to my husband for coming up with the descriptors.  I edited my “What should my answer look like?” posters to make SBG posters.

Oh this grading system is really unique to get on. Usually the 1s and 2s will create problems. But new things give a new energetic excitement to do the work. Your adshel poster is also looking good enough. Make the changes.

Did this work better for you? Did you still require retakes for 1&2?

It did! I don't require retakes for 1s and 2s, but I strongly suggest it to students since they are failing grades.

I love this and am looking forward to using this in my classes! ( I did edit it to fit my needs, and if you want a copy of that, I can email it to you.) Do you have this made into a notebook insert that students can put in their notebooks to remind them what their quiz grades mean?

So simple I love it. I always use 3.5 but never had it officially listed. Thank you for sharing.
