Grade Level Area Division Puzzles (4th – 10th, 12th Grades)

Can you divide the grids into subsections so that each section contains the letters in the name of your students’ grade level? This logic puzzle is perfect for welcoming students to a new grade level at the beginning of the year!

grade level area division logic puzzles for first week of school.

I have currently created these area division puzzles for each grade level between 4th and 10th grade (plus 12th grade as a bonus.) The software I use to create these does not allow repeated characters, so I could not make 11th grade since it has two 1’s or 3rd grade since it has two r’s.

This puzzle is just one of many free printable area division puzzles that I have created for my own classroom and am sharing with you!

What are Area Division Puzzles?

Area Division Puzzles are a grid-based logic puzzle that involves dividing a provided grid into regions so that each region contains the specified letters (or numbers) exactly one time each. The letters can be in any order inside the region.

Here’s a sample area division puzzle and solution to help you understand the goal of this logic puzzle.

Grade Level Area Division Puzzle Instructions

Divide the grid into regions so that each region contains the letters in the phrase corresponding to each grade level exactly once.

This puzzle packet features four smaller grids on a single page as well as an additional page with one mega-sized grid to solve for each grade level.

Puzzle Solutions

Puzzle solutions are available on a password-protected solution page. I do not openly post the puzzle answer keys because one of my goals as a resource creator is to craft learning experiences for students that are non-google-able. I want teachers to be able to use these puzzles in their classrooms without the solutions being found easily on the Internet.

Please email me at sarah@mathequalslove.net for the password to the answer key database featuring all of my printable puzzles and math worksheets. I frequently have students emailing me for the answer key, so please specify in your email what school you teach at and what subjects you teach. If you do not provide these details, I will not be able to send you the password.

Not a teacher? Go ahead and send me an email as well. Just let me know what you are using the puzzles for. I am continually in awe of how many people are using these puzzles with scouting groups, with senior adults battling dementia, or as fun activities in their workplace. Just give me enough details so I know you are not a student looking for answers to the puzzle that was assigned as their homework!
